“India lives inside me. I am always there.”
I wanted to be a painter, but my first work as an artist was as a textile designer. I did that work mostly in India for twenty years, where I was surrounded by beauty, mysteries, giant statues and temples of Gods and Goddesses, and real monkeys everywhere. India was a beautiful assault on the senses.
In the cities every day, I would see large dramatic billboards with hand-painted Bollywood heroes and heroines. The vividness and the colors spoke to me. And, I knew then that my paintings must have that impact.
